We are pioneers in health testing for Sloughis! We are extremely proud that our Zina was the first Sloughi to be listed on OFA's public registry. She is also the first Sloughi thyroid-tested through OFA and the first CHIC-registered female Sloughi. We also have the only Sloughis tested via PennHIP as well as the only Sloughis who have had shoulders evaluated by OFA. We own the first four Sloughis to have elbows evaluated by OFA as well as the first two female Sloughis with OFA hip evaluations.
We believe in testing for as much as we can in order to detect any changes or potential problems as early as possible, even when we do not anticipate any abnormalities to be found. As such, our current breeding-eligible Sloughis have extensive health testing well beyond CHIC: PennHIP, OFA hips, shoulders, elbows, dentition, patella, cardiac, and a DNA panel test (either Embark or Optimal Selection). In addition, all of our breeding dogs are tested for and clear of the gene for Sloughi PRA and have a CAER eye exam within 12 months prior to breeding. Each of our dog's complete health testing results are listed on their individual pages.
We value transparency in health in order to better the breed for generations to come. Many of our dogs have led extremely healthy and robust lives. But when we encounter a health issue, we share it publicly. See below for original Sloughis du Soleil articles on a variety of Sloughi health topics.
